How To Convert Fraction To Percentage

Let’s learn how to convert a fraction to a percentage without using a calculator. A procedure that is often needed and used in everyday life, regardless of whether you are a student, businessman, or farmer. We all need to work with percentages or fractions from time to time, so of course, it is very important to make appropriate conversions between them.

On this page you will see:

  • How to convert from a fraction to a percentage
  • How to convert from a percentage to a fraction

The process of converting between these two different numerical value records is very easy and anyone can learn it and permanently memorize it and use it in their life. Then the question arises – why use a calculator for this type of calculation when we can effectively exercise our mind and always be able to calculate without using a calculator? And so we spend too much time on our cell phones and other types of technology. So let’s learn how to replace this procedure in a very easy and effective way.

How To Convert Fraction To Percentage

In the text below I will present two different types of conversion of a fraction to a percentage:

  1. Converting a fraction to a percentage that has a denominator that is a divisor of the number 100
  2. Converting a fraction to a percentage that has a denominator that is not a divisor of the number 100

Example 1: Convert the fraction to a percentage:

How To Convert Fraction To Percentage Without Calculator

When we want to transform a fraction that has a denominator that is a divisor of the number 100, we expand the fraction to the denominator 100, and immediately its numerator (obtained after expansion) shows us the percentage amount.

To get the denominator 100 from the number 5, we multiply the number 5 by 20. Therefore, we will expand the numerator of the fraction with the same number – the number 20. After the full expansion, the fraction gets the following variant:

from where it is seen that the percentage amount is 80%!

Example 2: Convert the fraction to a fractional number:

If we are converting a fraction that has a denominator that is not a divisor of 100, then we must calculate the quotient of the numerator and denominator, convert the fraction to a decimal number, and then convert it to a percentage.

After determining the quotient of the numbers, it is easy to see that the percentage amount is 13. (3)%!

How To Convert Percentage To Fraction

Converting, the reverse of the first, from a percentage to a fraction is much easier. To complete the whole converting procedure, first, we transform the percentage amount into a fraction that has a denominator of 100. If the fraction can be transformed into a simpler form, it is good to do so.

Example 3: Convert a percentage value to a fraction:

How To Convert Percentage To Fraction

First, we convert the percentage amount into a fraction with a denominator of 100:

In the last entry, it is seen that the fraction can be transformed into a simpler form if its numerator and denominator are divided by their greatest common divisor – the number 10.

After the final calculation, you can clearly see the value of the initial percentage amount, which is:
