Check out our arithmetic mean examples with solutions! Arithmetic mean is data that provides information about the average value of a series of data with a certain numerical value. Apart from mathematics and its special part statistics, the arithmetic mean is also used a lot in everyday life.
By thinking about the Arithmetic environment we can all make appropriate plans for our future as regards the flow of money earned and its spending! We all know that the more precise our plans are, the more predictable our entire future is, no matter what aspect of human life it is.
In the text below we will show you how to calculate the arithmetic mean of two, three or more data. You have the opportunity here to see more arithmetic mean examples with solutions!
Arithmetic Mean Formula
The formula by which we can calculate the arithmetic mean is contained in the following two steps that we need to practice in order to arrive at an accurate solution:
- First we calculate a total sum of all the numbers
- We divide that sum by the number of data! The resulting quotient is the average value of all numbers!
Arithmetic Mean Examples With Solution
Take a look at the examples that our team has prepared for all our readers!
Example 1: An NBA Basketball player scored 40 points in the first game. Determine the average value of scored points of the basketball player in the first two games if he scored 28 points in the second game!
First we add the two numbers of baskets scored!
40+28=68
We divide the obtained sum of scored baskets by the number of matches by 2!
68:2=34
The calculation is complete! We can state that the basketball player scores 34 points per game!
Example 2: Kelly runs recreationally three days a week! If she ran 12 km on Monday, 11 km on Wednesday, and 7 km on Friday, calculate how many kilometers Kelly ran on average in the current week!
First we add up the three run length values, for Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
12km + 11km + 7km = 30km
We divide the resulting sum for the total length run by the number of days Kelly ran!
30km : 3 = 10km
The calculation is complete! We can state that Kelly ran an average of 10 kilometers!
Example With More Than Three Data
Example 3: Kobe wrote down his table at the end of every month for a year! At the end of the year, he received the data for his table: 78; 80; 81; 84; 82; 81; 80; 79; 80; 79; 77; 75 all in kilograms. Calculate the arithmetic mean for Kobe’s mass during the previous calendar year!
First we collect all the data that Kobe recorded about his table during the previous year!
78 + 80 + 81 + 84 + 82 + 81 + 80 + 79 + 80 + 79 + 77 + 75 = 956
We divide the obtained sum by the number of months in the year!
956 : 12 = 79.(6) kg
We note that during the previous year, Kobe weighed an average of 79.6 kilograms!
